Adventures Of A Neurospicy City Boy: 4

When the Math's doesn’t math.  Maths, oh how I hate maths! Just as letters move around, numbers also keep moving. This bit of my neurospicy is called dyscalculia. The whole concept of maths drives me crazy. Let's take 7 divided by 5. I’m supposed to somehow take two different numbers and split them to make one number, but that number somehow has bits leftover in a fraction. Now a fraction is 1 number on top and one below so in this example it’s two numbers, 2 and 5, and that’s still a 7, but it’s less than the 7 we used in the sum. If you say since it’s up and down, it’s different, but who decides to just push a number down, just because you feel like keeping one number on the top. This is not the right way to show how small the number is.  Whoever invented numbers and fractions just couldn't accept that they were wrong, so they just created new numbers to make themselves right. They weren’t happy with regular numbers so they came up with fractions and decimals. Then they d...

Adventures Of A Neurospicy City Boy: 3

Boys Being Boys. As a boy, I am proud to say I am like many others, silly. I like sports and video games, am fascinated by the most random stuff, hanging out with my friends, watching TV, looking at cars and bikes on the road and just generally not being bothered with life. Being a boy is just fun. When I'm with my friends, we talk about random things with the seriousness of a business meeting. Once we thought about how if you take the engine of a bike and somehow attach it to a cycle while powering it with the pedals, would it be considered a bike, which needs a licence to drive, or a cycle which does not need a licence to drive. Another day we were playing with Hot Wheels and we found this very unique car which had the outer body of a car but the inside was a bike. The bike part could tilt left and right like arcade bike racing games do on turns. Now we were wondering how this would function as a real vehicle. We thought about the design. If we turn the bike handle the front two...

Adventures Of A Neurospicy City Boy: 2

Life in the Aamchi. (Aamchi Mumbai = Our Mumbai) Living in Mumbai, the city that never sleeps, is something you have to experience firsthand to understand. This place literally never sleeps. And trust me I’ve tried looking for times it does. Living here is not for people who want a quiet, easy life, adrenaline junkies are the only ones who flourish here.  The majority of people who live here are in a constant state of stress, excitement, anger, enjoyment, confusion, focus, every emotion you can think of. People will swing through a minimum of 6 emotions a day. It’s like the roads that have 6 intersections. How that works is beyond me but everyone seems to find their place and life moves on. The mentality of Mumbai residents is also something no other place has. It is best described as that of a rickshaw driver. When trying to get a rickshaw you stand on the road and stick your hand out. If the rickshaw driver sees you and isn’t too distracted by his earphones, then he sizes you up....

Adventures Of A Neurospicy City Boy

When your English doesn’t english. Neurospicy is a fun, quirky way of describing people who have neurological problems like dyslexia, dyscalculia, sensory issues etc. It’s a way of saying ‘one of these is not like the others.’ Ever since I can remember, spelling, reading, writing, maths were hard. Textures, sounds, colours were also annoying to the point of crying from frustration. Let me tell you what I mean by spellings, reading etc. From my point of view. I don't know how you see words in books or signs but to me words move. Move! What do you mean by move? I know you might think that it doesn't make any sense but that's exactly my point. It doesn't. That is why it used to bring me to tears. I will try to give you an example. Let's take this sentence. “A cat is small and cute.” Now what I would see is, “Cat a cute small and”. If I closed my eyes and looked again I would see, “tac a sall and cute.” Now that was not a spelling mistake, it is just how I saw the words...
